An England amateur International, Lionel Louch was a prolific goalscoring centre-forward and scored on his début against Sweden in 1908. In five appearances between then and 1914 he scored nine goals including a hat-trick against Belgium and four goals against Wales both in February 1914. An insurance clerk with Ocean Accidental Insurance, now part of the Aviva group, Louch played for London clubs Queens Park Rangers and Shepherd’s Bush before moving to the South coast and joining Portsmouth who he was with at the time of the 1908 Olympics when was one of the non-travelling reserves. At the start of the next season Louch moved out of the Southern League and joined Clapton Orient, making his Football League début against Barnsley in the second division on Christmas Day 1908. He spent two seasons at Orient scoring 10 goals in 38 League and Cup games. An amateur throughout his career, Louch then played for Brentford and Southend United before the outbreak of the war when he joined the London Regiment but was pensioned out after just less than one year service.
