David Letham was a centre-half who made the first of his 190 appearances for the Scottish club Queen’s Park in 1940. Half of his appearances were during war-time football. Called into the Great Britain squad for the 1948 Olympics, he sustained a serious leg injury which meant a long spell in hospital and forced him to miss the Games. The injury ended his career and he furthered his career as a physical education teacher. Despite ending his playing days, he continued his association with Queen’s Park, serving them as a director and president. He was also elected president of the Scottish Football League in 1981.
