Sprinter Marga Petersen earned a silver medal with the sprint relay at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and reached the semifinals of the 100. She earned 10 West German titles in the post-war years. Petersen was elected 1947 West German Sportswoman of the Year. She was also awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 1951 and 1952. Her husband Ewald Petersen (1915-98) was a nationally successful sprinter. Marga later was a Board Member of “German Former Olympians” and served with the Federation of Former Track and Field Athletes. She was educated as an office clerk.
