Heike Schulte-Mattler, a 400 metre runner, earned a bronze medal in the 4x400 relay at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, but was eliminated in the heats of the 400. She was also expected to compete at the 1980 Moskva Olympics but could not start due to the US-led boycott. Schulte-Mattler was also active as a long jumper and a pentathlete. At the 1982 Europeans she started in the 200 and with the 4x400 relay (fourth), at the 1980 European indoors competed in long jump. Schulte-Mattler won a West German title in 1982 in the 200. In 1984 she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf. By profession, she was an administration clerk.
