Defender Mirko Taccola started his career at his home-town club, Pisa Calcio, and made his Serie A début for them in the 1998/89 season. He later played for Ternana, Pescara, Internazionale, Lucchese, Palermo, Napoli and his last club in the top level of Italian football, Cagliari. Despite his many clubs, Taccola made only 19 Serie A appearances. He carried on playing until 2012, but mostly with teams in the third and fourth tier of Italian football.
Taccola’s international career consisted of just two under-21 appearances, and he was a substitute when Italy won the 1992 European Under-21 Championship and was a member of the Olympic squad that same year, although he never played in the tournament.
