Toyoji Takahashi was the grandson of Japanese Prime Minister (1921-22) Korekiyo Takahashi and the second son of Koken Takahashi, a member of the House of Peers. He started playing soccer at high school. After he enrolled in the Faculty of Agriculture of the Tokyo Imperial University, he joined the university’s football club. He was selected as forward for the Japanese soccer team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but was not fielded in either game. However, he represented Japan in three friendly matches against FC Wacker Innsbruck.
After graduating he joined the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service but he died in a training accident at the base of the Tateyama Navy Air Corps. He was the first deceased member of the Japanese 1936 Olympic soccer team.
