Jia Youliang started playing football already in primary school as he lived near the public stadium. In 1924, he became a member of the All-Black Football Team. In 1930, he joined the Shanghai Asia Company and their football team. He later played as a right winger for the Tung Hwa Club and was to become one of the team’s most important players. Jia represented Shanghai in the 6th National Games in 1935. In 1936, he was selected as a member of the Chinese football team at the Berlin Olympics although with his size of 152 cm Jia Jouling was the shortest Chinese international of all-time. During the Sino-Japanese War, he managed the Tung Hwa team and continued to play until 1950.
After World War II and the civil war, Tung Hwa’s activities were suspended and Jia Youliang coached the city of Shanghai’s football teams in addition to working in a local battery factory. In 1981, he was elected as vice-chairman and later as chairman of the reinstated Tung Wah Club. Jia participated in several visits of the veterans’ team to Hong Kong.
