Georg Wilhelm Amberger was German, but later moved to Alsace in France. In 1923 his textbook Der Lauf (The Run) was released. He was a gymnastics teacher, and later a professor in the 1930s in Lörrach, and was also a good swimmer and football player. In the Baden State Association of Athletics he became Press Secretary (1921-23), Sports Manager (1921) and Women’s Delegate (1925).
During his sport career he set one world record over 500 metres in 1920 (1:06.0) and was national champion in 1918 and 1920 over 800 m. At the Stockholm Olympics in 1912 he was eliminated in the heats over 1500 metres and with the team over 3,000 metres. Domestically, he was German Champion over 800 metres in 1918 and 1920. He also came third in 1920 over 400 metres and in 1922 and 1923 over 400 metres hurdles.
