Biography

David Tomlinson was educated at Alleyne´s Grammar School, Stevenage, before going to Trinity College, Cambridge. He played hockey for the University XI in 1958 and then became a double Blue in 1959 and 1960, and was a Great Britain reserve at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He was appointed secretary of the Cambridge University Hockey Club for the 1959/60 season.

A full-back, Tomlinson played most of his club hockey for Southgate and eventually became club captain. He won representative honours with Hertfordshire, the Rest of England, Great Britain, and England, for whom he won nine caps. Tomlinson also played for the Royal Engineers while he was doing his National Service.
