Besides his 1992 Olympic appearance in the 1,500 metres, in which he was eliminated in the semi-finals, Hauke Fuhlbrügge also took part in the 1991 World Championships, earning a bronze medal in the 1500 m, and the 1990 European Championships, when he was disqualified in the heats. In the European Cup Fuhlbrügge started over 800 metres in 1987 (6th) and 1989 (3rd), and was 6th in the 1993 1,500. At the World Indoor Championships he earned a silver medal in 1989 over 1500 m. Domestically he was 1989 GDR Indoor Champion, and also for re-unified Germany in 1991. Fuhlbrügge studied law and became a lawyer in Hamburg.
