Hans Geister earned a bronze medal at the 1952 Helsinki Games in the 4x400 relay with Günther Steines, Heinz Ulzheimer and Karl-Friedrich Haas claiming a new European record with 3:06.78. He was eliminated in the quarter finals of the 400 metres. One year earlier the same relay team won the All-England Championships. Geister also won a silver medal at the 1954 European Championships (with non-Olympian Helmut Dreher, Ulzheimer and Haas), where he was disqualified in the second round of the 400. Domestically he won one national title in the 400 metres and another four with the relay. In 1952 Geister was awarded the “Silbernes Lorbeerblatt” (Silver Bay Leaf). Between 1959-67 he was the Chairman of the “Vereinigung alter Leichtathleten” (Association of Former Track and Field Athletes).
