Race walker Paul Gunia was eliminated in the heats of the 1908 London Olympics of the 3,500 metre and 10 miles walk. In 1912, he was German Champion over 3,000 metres. He set several German records and in 1908 became the first German race walker under 13 minutes, and one year later he set a world record for 20 km. After World War I he worked as a sports teacher.
