Helmut Hamann, 400 metre specialist, started only in the 4×400 relay at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, in which he won a bronze medal together with Friedrich von Stülpnagel, Harry Voigt and Rudi Harbig. Two years earlier he was European Champion in the relay with Hans Scheele, Voigt and Adolf Metzner. In 1935, 1936 and 1939 Hamann was German Champion in the 400. Hamann was killed in action during World War II near Siedliszcze in Poland, and is buried at the war cemetery in Włodowa, Grave #794.
