Manfred Knickenberg

Sprinter Manfred Knickenberg participated in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the 100, but was eliminated in the heats. He won a bronze medal with the sprint relay at the 1966 Europeans, placing fourth in the 100, and he also finished second in the 100 at the 1965 European Cup. In 1964-66 Knickenberg was West German Champion in the 100, also winning the 200 in 1966, which led to him being called “fastest policeman in Germany.” The policeman also won the West German Police Championships in the 100 in 1959, 1963, 1965, 1969, and 1971. He was later active as a sprint coach and married non-Olympian sprinter Maren Collin. Their daughter Britta Knickenberg also became a sprinter at the national level.
