Biography

Javelin thrower Herbert Koschel finished 12th at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and was an unfortunate fourth four years later at Melbourne. In 1954 he also participated in the European Championships, placing 12th. From 1952-54 Koschel won three West German Championships. Koschel was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf after winning the German Student’s Championship in 1951. He died in 1980 due to injuries he had sustained in a car accident.
