Biography
German middle-distance runner Nico Motchebon, whose father was from Cameroon, finished fifth in the 800 metres final at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. He won two bronze medals at the World Indoor Championships in 1993 and 1999. Nationally, he was the German 800 metres champion seven times in 1993-97, 1999 and 2001, and the indoor champion 1993-98.
Motchebon started his sports career as a modern pentathlete and won the German title in 1991. In 1989, he was silver medallist with the modern pentathlon relay squad at the World Championships. In 2014, he became an executive member of the German Modern Pentathlon Federation. His sister Jessica Motchebon married Namibian sprinter Frankie Fredericks in 2001.
