Julius Müller

Race walker Julius Müller was a self-employed common carrier and coal dealer. He was married to Italian-born race walker Eliana Müller. From 1950-53 he was also an active footballer. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics he was disqualified after 14 km of the 20 km walk. Müller participated in 16 German Championships over different distances, won four West German titles, and set nine German records. Later he was engaged as a coach by the German Athletics Association, and participated in the 1996 Atlanta Games. His children Stefan, Carlo and Roberta were also active race walkers at the national level.

In 2012 Müller, by then with a disabled leg, was attacked by two drunken teenagers in his hometown of Delmenhorst, and beaten badly, as they kicked his handicapped left leg and stole 50 Euros from him. They were sentenced to 1-1½ years in jail with probation for aggravated assault and insult.
