German discus thrower Michael Möllenbeck, later the husband of Anja Gündler, won two bronze medals at the World Championships (2001 and 2005), and one bronze at the Europeans (2002). He participated in three consecutive Olympic Games, placing tenth as his best result at Sydney in 2000. He was the German champion in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
Möllenbeck caused an uproar at a training camp in Portugal in 1994 when he rioted while drunk; as a result he was banned from all competitions for six months. This event also led to a life-long feud between him and team-mate Lars Riedel.
Personal Best: DT – 67.64 (2002).
