Biography

Middle-distance runner Rüdiger Stenzel did not have a successful Olympic appearance at Barcelona in 1992, being eliminated in the heats of the 1,500. He came in 10th at the World Championships in both 1993 and 1997, but was eliminated in the preliminaries in 1995 and 1999. In 1994 and 1998 he finished seventh at the European Championships, also placing seventh at the 1995 World Indoors. Two years later he claimed the silver medal at World Indoors for his best international result. He was also very successful at the European Cup, winning in 1995, and finishing second in 1994, 1996 and 1999.

Domestically Stenzel won seven outdoor and seven indoor titles. After his active career he started coaching at his home club TV Wattenscheid 01 and became branch manager at the Sports Association in Bochum.

Personal Best: 1500 – 3:33.60 (1997).
