West German decathlete Eberhard Stroot came in 21st at the 1976 Montréal Olympic Games although he missed all his attempts in the pole vault. At the 1974 Europeans he finished ninth.
Stroot trained as a sports teacher but later became a well-known artist, as a successful painter, draftsman and sculptor. Stroot began his artistic career with landscape watercolors and abstract oil paintings, then in 1982 switched to so-called “Chrono drawings” with charcoal and chalk and using sports themes. Since 1981 he exhibited on over 50 occasions in Germany and abroad and had numerous television appearances on German TV channels ZDF, SWR and WDR. In 1986 and 1988 Stroot was awarded the accesses’ prize and an honorary prize at the I. and II. International Biennial in Barcelona in the category “Sports and Art”, and received numerous other art awards.
