Ludwig Warnemünde placed 43rd in the 1952 Helsinki Olympic marathon. He won five West German distance titles. In 1942 he was also Latvian champion in the 5K. In 1956 he hitched a ride to the Melbourne Olympics together with his wife. They reached Melbourne, where Warnemünde was awarded a special ticket and stayed as a guest of the Australian NOC for some weeks. By profession Warnemünde was a truck driver.
