Greek triple jumper Menelaos Ponireas competed at the Panhellenic Games in 1920 where he jumped 13.63 metres to set a Panhellenic record. These games were used as the selection process for the Antwerpen Olympics, held later the same year. Ponireas once again competed in the triple jump but failed to register a mark in the qualification round and was eliminated.
