Biography

Panagiotis Retelas came from Smyrna before moving to Greece where he became a champion track and field athlete. At a pre-Olympic trial in 1920, Retelas won the 800 and 5,000 metres, as well as finishing second in the 1,500 and 10,000 metres. These performances earned him a place on the Greek team for the 1920 Antwerpen Games where he ran in the 5,000 metres and cross-country race. Retelas was also scheduled to run in the 800 and 1,500 metres but did not start either. At the Panionian Games in 1921 Retelas was victorious in the 800, 1,500, and 3,000 metres. The following year he managed to escape from the Ottoman Empire during the Greco-Turkish War, and continued to compete in athletics in Athína.

Personal Best: 5000 – unknown.
