Nikolaos Syllas had a long career as a discus thrower, competing at the 1936, 1948, and 1952 Olympics. He also appeared at the European Championships in 1946 and 1950, just missing a medal in 1946 when he finished fourth. Syllas was Balkan Champion in the discus in 1932 and 1934-40 and won 15 Greek titles in 1932-35, 1937-40, 1946-51, and 1956. He set 11 Greek records with the disc, finally leaving it at 51.00 with his personal best in 1939. As a career Syllas was a long-time staff member of the Electric Transport Company.
