A distance runner, George De Peana ran the 5,000 metres at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He competed at the 1959 Pan American Games, placing fourth in the 10K and fifth in the 5K.
De Peana moved to Jamaica in the 1970s where he served as a Worker Education Officer with the International Labour Organization (ILO). He later moved to Trinidad and Tobago where he became Director of the Caribbean Office of the ILO. De Peana eventually became General Secretary of the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union (CCWU) and Principal Assistant Secretary of the Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC).
