Carlos Ávila was a Honduran long-distance runner who specialised in the marathon. Ávila had a long career that started in the 1960s, eventually culminating in his selection to compete at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Competing in his favourite event, he ran in the marathon, but finished 71st, more than 30 minutes behind the winning time. He later worked as a coach and taught at a local high school.
