István Bagyula was a Hungarian pole vaulter who competed at two Olympic Games, finishing seventh in 1988 and ninth in 1992. He was the 1988 World Junior Champion. His major international achievement came at the 1991 World Championships when he won a silver medal behind Sergey Bubka. Bagyula attended college in the United States at George Mason University, winning three NCAA titles in the pole vault – outdoors in 1991-92 and indoors in 1991.
