In 1927 he won the Hungarian championship in the 800-meter and a year later he participated in the first World College Championship in Rome, finishing in the first place in the so-called Swedish relay. He was a member of the 4x400 relay at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.
Magdics stopped racing early for health reasons, but did not break away from athletics and worked as a judge for decades. Even on the day of his death, he officiated at the Budapest Youth Championship, but on his return home he was involved in a fatal tram accident. His civilian profession was mechanical engineering, and his son became a renowned sports photographer.
