Mario Minach started to compete in athletics in high school and from 1931 was an athlete with Budapesti Budai Torna Egylet (BBTE). As a member of their 4x100m relay he won the Hungarian Championship in 1933 and one year later won both the Hungarian and British titles. In 1936 Minach moved to Magyar Athletic Club and helped them win the Hungarian 4x200 title, which they repeated in 1941. Between 1935 and 1937, he was on the Hungarian national team four times under the name of Minai. In 1935 he won the World University Championship in the 4x100m relay and placed fifth in the Swedish relay. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he was eliminated in the rounds of the 200 metres and the 4x100 metre relay. After the Olympics, he competed more at 400 metres.
After graduating from high school, Minai first studied economics at the Royal Hungarian József Nádor University of Technology and Economics, and then at the Faculty of Law of Pázmány Péter University. From 1940 he worked first as a trainee in the tax office and then as a journalist. He moved to Italy after World War II.
