József Remecz began his sports career as a football goalkeeper for OTE, where he was famous for his long throws. From there, a straight path led to athletics, more specifically to discus throwing. Between 1929 to 1933 he was an athlete with Rákosligeti AC, between 1934-35 the Váci Reménység and from 1936 to 1944 the MOVE Rákosligeti SE. He was considered as a medal candidate prior to the Los Angeles Olympics, as he was the first European thrower above 50m. However, his chances were diminished a lot during the long voyage. He couldn’t stand the food and unfamiliar circumstances, so he ended up in a disappointing 9th place. In 1932, 1933, in 1934 he was a Hungarian champion and in 1934 4th in the European Championships. Even in 1941, he was able to perform above 50m.
Personal Best: DT - 50.73 (1932).
