Sándor Toldi

Sándor Toldi began to compete as a theology student in 1912, and after a year became the best Hungarian discus thrower. He also competed in shot put and javelin, in which he won bronze medals at the 1914 Hungarian Championship. In discus he reached his personel best result in 1913 in Wien (Vienna) with 46.86 metres, which stood for 15 years as a Hungarian record. In 1914, he finished third at the British AAA Championship. In 1922, by then a pastor, Toldi resumed his sports career, and won the Hungarian title from 1922 to 1924.

At the 1924 Paris Olympics Toldi finished ninth in the discus, after carrying the Hungarian flag at the Opening Ceremony. He then retired from competitive athletics and focused on his job, serving as a pastor and religious teacher in several regions of Hungary, before retiring in 1953. In addition to his pastoral career and athletic career, he was a passionate amateur radio operator, and he helped found the West Hungarian Radio Association in 1928.
