Eric Whiteside competed for India at the 1936 Olympics but was also an outstanding boxer. He was All-Indian Lightweight Boxing Champion three times before he took up athletics. In 1948 he and his family emigrated to Australia, where his son, Ray, took up hockey and competed for Australia at the 1956 Olympics in that sport.
