Brendan Quinn was born in the unlikely location of Jordanian controlled East Jerusalem where his father was part of the United Nations civil administration. Brendan started his career in athletics at the age of 12 after the family returned to County Meath but they soon moved west to Waterford where his talent began to be noticed. Quinn followed the route of many top Irish athletes and went to university in the USA, studying at Providence College on Rhode Island. He was Irish steeplechase champion in 1983 but missed the 1984 Olympic Games due to an injury. He regained the national championships in 1985 and set an Irish steeplechase that still stands in 2026.5. Quinn was named to the 1986 Irish European Championship roster but, sadly, he was brought down in his heat and broke his arm. Having qualified for the 1988 Olympics, Quinn was distanced in his heat and failed to progress.
Personal Best: 3000S – 8:24.09 (1985).
