Elisabetta Perrone was one of the greatest Italian female walkers. Under coach Marco Ugolini, her international palmares included two silver medals in 10K at the 1995 World Championships and at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and one bronze over 20K at the 2001 Worlds in Edmonton. Her greatest disappointment came at the Sydney Olympics, when, close to a gold medal victory, she was disqualified for her third card. Perrone competed for Forestale, a military club, and her Italian record of 1-27:09 in the 20K stood from 2001 to at least 2019. She won four national titles over 5,000 metres and earned 39 international caps from 1991-2004.
Personal Bests: 10kmW – 41:56 (1993); 20kmW – 1-27:09 (2001).
