Giuseppe Beviacqua

Giuseppe Beviacqua was born in Savona in 1914 and was the strongest Italian specialist in the 5K and 10K from 1936-48. He set Italian records of 14:31.8 (1942) and 30:27.4 (1940), which remained unbroken until 1957 and 1959, respectively. Beviacqua won 15 Italian titles, six consecutive at 5,000 metres from 1938-43, with seven distance doubles, and two in cross-country. He was 11th at the Berlin Olympics in the 10K and in 1938 he won the British AAA title over 10,000 metres. On 15 September in Paris Beviacqua won silver at the 1938 European Championships with 30:53.2. Beviacqua won 20 international caps from 1936-51.
