Biography

Guido Cominotto was an Italian athlete who started out as a footballer, but switched to athletics in 1921 when a friend convinced him to run at the Venice Student Championships. In 1922 Cominotto won both the 400 and 800 metres at the Italian championships and the following year he was unbeaten in Italy, winning both titles, but was defeated three times abroad, in London, Colombes, and København. After competing at the 1924 Olympics in the 4 x 400 meters relay, he took 1925 off, but returned to full competition in 1926, winning his fourth 800 national title and losing only once, in August at Budapest to László Barsi.

Cominotto basically ended his sports career after the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics where he reached the semi-final in the 800 metres. He was a member of the Italian national team from 1924-28, during which time he was capped seven times. He set only one Italian record, that in the 600 metres on 17 May 1924 at Busto Arsizio with 1:24.8.

Personal Bests: 400 – 51.0 (1922); 800 – 1:55.6 (1926).
