Luciano Paccagnella was an Italian decathlete who competed in the 1950s and 60s. In an event dominated in Italy in those years by Franco Sar, eight-time Italian champion and holder of many national records for 16 years (1959-75), Paccagnella never managed a major win or set a record. He was also hampered by injuries throughout his sporting career.
Paccagnella’s only major international decathlon was at the 1960 Roma Olympics where he placed 13th. He earned six international caps from 1959-61. He was runner-up in Bari at the 1959 Italian Championships behind Sar.
Personal Best: Dec – 6947 (1960).
