A world-class discus thrower, Silvano Simeon’s career came to a halt in 1968 when he had to have heart surgery, which he did in Houston, Texas in the USA. However, he was able to return to international competition. In 1967 Simeon had broken Adolfo Consolini’s 1955 national record of 56.98, by throwing 57.30 at the Mediterranean Games. Simeon earned 52 international caps from 1966-82, with a personal best of 65.10 in 1976.
He competed at two Olympic Games, placing 10th and 19th in 1972 and 1976, respectively. He won two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games from 1967-79, and twice competed at the European Championships, placing sixth in 1966 and 12th in 1978.
