From Kansai University, Furuta Yasuharu competed in the men’s 110 metre hurdles at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but only placed last in the first heat. In 1946 he won the national championship in the triple jump, the first after World War II. Furuta later served as a board member of the Japan Athletics Federation.
