Keiji Imai won two consecutive titles in the 400 metres at the Japan Athletics Championships in 1934 and 1935, as well as one in the 4x400 relay in 1938 with the team from Keio University. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he ran the 400 metres, but did not advance past the first round of heats.
