Hiroyoshi Kubota did not win a national title in the individual 400 m event but did win three in the 4x400 metre relay with the Waseda University team (1934-36). At the 1936 Berlin Olympics he ran the 400 metres and the 4x400, but did not advance past the first round of heats in either event. His death was reported in the 2002 Japan Student Athletics Federation newsletter.
