Masayoshi Ochiai succeeded Yuji Nagao in 1932 as the Japanese Champion in the hammer throw. Together with Ichiro Furuyama he formed the Meiji University’s trio of hammer throwers. Ochiai died in the Chinese province of Henan during the Sino-Japanese War.
