Konosuke Sano

Konosuke Sano’s talent was discovered at the 1916 “San’in Olympic Games” (currently “All San-in Track and Field Championship”), a youth tournament supported by Shizo Kanakuri. It was held under this name for the first time and was sponsored by the Matsue City Young Men’s Association, of which Sano was a member. In 1920, he was the first Olympian from Shimane Prefecture but failed to qualify for the finals of the 5,000 and 10,000 metres events. He was more successful at the 5th Far Eastern Games in Shanghai in 1921, winning silver in the 5-mile competition.
