Together with Mutsuo Taniguchi, his teammate at Uto High School, Kenshi Togami enrolled in Kansai University. He was selected to compete at the 1936 Berlin Olympics in the long jump but placed last in the final. In 1937 he achieved some good results in the triple jump domestically and during a tour to New Zealand. During the Sino-Japanese War, he served with the infantry in China and on the island of Munda in the Solomon Islands.
