While attending Waseda University Noboru Ueno competed in the javelin throw at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He later joined the Nankai Electric Railway on the Japanese island of Honshu. He captured his only national title in 1942, six years after the Olympics. He still placed second in the first National Athletic Meet after World War II in 1946.
