Latvian sportsman Jānis Jordāns specialised in throwing events, which saw him win twenty national titles across multiple different disciplines. Jordāns became the Latvian champion in the discus throw (1924–27, 1929), discus throw with both hands (1926–27, 1929–31), hammer throw (1923–30), and weight throw (1930–31). He also set eight national records in throwing events and became a two-time Latvian champion in weightlifting. He competed in the discus throw at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics where he finished 12th with a best effort of 42.78 metres. During World War II Jordāns was imprisoned in a Soviet camp where he died of tuberculosis in February 1944.
