Wang Yuzeng

Wang Yuzeng graduated from the Department of Physical Education of the Beijing Normal University and was one of the pioneers in basketball in China. He participated in the 1930 and 1934 Far Eastern Games as a member of the Chinese team and acted as captain at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. After his return from Berlin, Wang Yuzeng entered the Whampoa Military Academy, which had to be relocated from Nanjing to Chengdu after the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War. After graduating the alumni were immediately ordered to the front.

In 1946, Wang Yuzeng married artist Lingwen and moved to Taiwan three years later. There, he served as a high-ranking officer in the Ministry of National Defense and was involved in physical education and the coaching of the “Seven Tigers” basketball team. The couple immigrated to the United States in 1969 and settled in New York, engaging in calligraphy and painting. After the death of his wife in 2008, the 97 years old Wang visited China, where he eventually died.
