Dilbagh Singh Kler competed for Malaysia in athletics at the Olympic, Commonwealth, Southeast Asian, and North Borneo Games in the 1960s. He came from a family of long and middle distance runners who competed at the British North Borneo Games before the formation of Malaysia in 1963. He specialized in the steeplechase but also ran the 1,500 and 5 and 10K. In the steeple he was a three-time champion at the SEAP Games in 1965, 1967, and 1969, setting a record of 9:27 in 1967 that stood until 1982. Singh Kler retired from competition in 1972 but took part in veteran’s events and worked for the state Youth and Sports Ministry as a coach until 1988.
