Ramasamy Subramaniam

Ramasamy Subramaniam was a Malaysian middle-distance runner. Subramaniam was a prison director before he competed at the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth, Australia. Two years later Subramaniam qualified for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics where he competed in the 800 metres and the 1,500 metres. Subramaniam also competed at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in the same two events. Despite his success in Asia Subramaniam failed to advance from the heats in all of his races at the Olympics.

Subramaniam’s career spanned 10 years , during which time he won seven gold and six silver medals at the Asian Games and the Southeast Asian Games. At the 1967 Southeast Asian Games, Subramaniam won the 800 metres in a record time before he ran in the 5,000 metres just 30 minutes later.
