Biography

Center Klaus Weinand was on the West German basketball team at the 1972 München Olympics. The team lost both the classification match for places 9-12 against Australia by only one point (70-69), and also lost the 11th place match by one point against Spain (84-83). Domestically, Weinand played with Rot-Weiß Koblenz (1956-60, 1962), USC Heidelberg (1960-62), Neuköllner Sportfreunde Berlin (1962-63), Alemannia Aachen (1963-64), VfL Osnabrück (1964-75), and eventually RUWA Essen (1975-76). He helped Heidelberg win West German titles in 1961 and 1962, Aachen in 1964, and Osnabrück in 1969 (also the West German Cup in 1967). Weinand later became a physician specializing in ophthalmology and practiced in Lahnstein near Koblenz.
